At Kettlesing Felliscliffe Primary School, our children gain a firm understanding and appreciation of what music is through listening, singing, playing, evaluating, analysing, and composing across a wide variety of musical genres.

At Kettlesing Felliscliffe Primary School, we want to enable children to understand musical concepts through a repetition-based approach to learning. Our children will learn about the same musical concept through different musical activities to enable a more secure, deeper learning and mastery of musical skills. The children’s musical learning is built around the Interrelated Dimensions of Music: pulse, rhythm, pitch, tempo, dynamics, timbre, texture, structure and notation. These dimensions are at the centre of all the learning.

We believe it is important that our children understand the importance of all types of music, and respect for the role that music may play in any person’s life and the wider community.

The National Curriculum for music aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • Perform, listen to, review and evaluate music;
  • Be taught to sing, create and compose music;

Understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated
